Which Curriculum to Use
One common question asked by homeschooling newcomers is, “Which curriculum is best?”
The answer is…
There is no “best” curriculum. While that may not be the hard and fast answer you may have hoped for, it is the most honest. Each child learns differently, and no single curriculum is going to work well for every student.
OwlPal admins recommend first assessing a child’s learning style, determining their current knowledge in different subjects, and finding a curriculum that suits their needs. Your child might do well with textbook language arts, while math from a textbook only frustrates and confuses them.
During your homeschool years you may change curriculum, piece it together, and even create your own. There is no single correct path. It is common to start with one curriculum and decide to change to another, if you are diligent in making sure there are no “holes” in your child’s education you should have nothing to worry about. OwlPal offers in-app progress testing to be sure student’s are completing each milestone!
With OwlPal’s Parent App you can easily view educational framework to determine what your child needs to learn before progressing to the next step. Once you’ve pinpointed their current needs you can select products from OwlPal’s Marketplace, checkout curriculum from your local library, borrow curriculum from your charter school, create your own, or buy through other marketplaces, such as Amazon.
The first steps are vital:
- Determine your child’s learning style
- Determine their current knowledge
- Determine what’s next in the Framework/Stepping Stones/Standards.
